Course overview
This 100% online, part-time LLB (Hons) Law is a qualifying law degree (QLD) recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and a great first step to the professional training stage of qualifying as a legal professional.
The course covers the seven foundations of legal knowledge. The syllabus is focused on the laws of England and Wales, but also includes relevant global issues. Throughout the programme, you’ll develop critical thinking, teamwork, leadership and presentation of legal argument skills through discussion forums with your fellow students. On completion of your degree, you’ll be ready to pursue legal training, while holding skills that’ll allow you to thrive in a wide range of careers in related sectors.

Entry requirements
At University of Essex Online, we believe that everyone should be able to access education. That is why we offer two different entry routes onto our LLB (Hons) Law, which considers academic or work-based experience. Academic entry route You must have the following qualifications as a minimum:
- three A-levels or equivalent
Work experience entry route You must meet the following criteria:
- GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent
- three years’ relevant work experience
English language requirement
Our courses are taught in English so to study with us you must have an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 or equivalent. If you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification, you will be required to pass a free online English test to assess your proficiency.

Assessment
All assessments are delivered through our virtual learning environment (VLE). There is no requirement to travel to external test centres; instead, you will submit assignments through the VLE, such as written reports, discussion forum participation or reflective journal entries. For the few modules that have timed assessments, we use a virtual proctoring system which enables you to sit academically rigorous timed assessments virtually in the comfort of your own home.
We also have a policy of ensuring that the work submitted by students is authentic – we use a well-established electronic monitoring system to check for plagiarism.
Career prospects
This online LLB (Hons) Law is a qualifying law degree (QLD), allowing you to complete the academic stage of legal education. If you’d like to qualify as a lawyer, you must complete your degree studies in no more than six years and achieve a minimum of a Lower Second Class Honours degree.
Legal knowledge is highly valued by wide a range of sectors such as management, government and the voluntary sector.
